The Apprentice or
Schlemiel, schlimazel, Hasenpfeffer incorporated...
I've long worried that it's the 'C' students who are running the world. The Apprentice is doing little to sway me of that opinion.
For the uninitiated, this is the newest 'reality' tv show from Mark Burnett. In this show, a couple dozen bright, young entrepeneurs and go-getters compete in what is essentially one long job placement. The winner gets a one year contract as the president of one of Donald Trump's corporations.
Granted, there is bound to be a lot of footage on the cutting room floor, and we're likely not seeing these people exactly as they are...
But jumping jimmeny - are these the people that are 'captains of industry'???
Forgive me, but I've always had a semi-romantic image of the heads of industry as being master strategists. Of being capable of leading. Of having brilliant, outside of the box thinking. These folks shatter those notions quite readily. I find myself in horror movie watching mode:
- Hands over my eyes, peeking through my fingers
- Shouting frantic instructions at the screen ("No - don't do that! Don't do that! What are you thinking - you're gonna die! Aaaaaah").
- Feeling somewhat grossed out by the end of it all
Somewhere out there is a very nervous group of employees, freaking over the fact that one of these people will soon be their boss.
