Twitter Updates for 2009-02-24

  • Hopefully #gmaildown won’t last long. Scary thing about working in the cloud is the day you look up and just see a big, clear, empty sky. #
  • And #gmailback — guess they found the cord that was accidentally unplugged and rebooted ;P #
  • The #gmaildown this morn. was disconcerting, but I trust Google to recover data and get back online with more ease than I could ever muster. #
  • Having had a hard drive that’s gone >fitz…sizzle..sputter< I’m much more comfortable with my data in centers with smart tech folk. #
  • @stephen_gm ok - have a solution to #crtc and an isp levy. Apply the levy to any ISP that is shaping data (not net neutral) but… #
  • @stephen_gm track usage and distrib funds to sites getting a viewership. This shouldn’t be a free gravy train for mediocre content. #crtc #
  • ISAN … $35 to add a work to database. $0.35 per query of the db. Are you kidding me?! Do they hand-engrave the db entries? #crtc #
  • Listening to the audio stream of the #crtc hearings is good white noise to help me focus. My productivity died since they went on break. #
  • CanCon rules make sense when there is limited bandwidth available - as was the case in the analog world of radio & tv. #crtc #
  • Funding for a blog if it supports a tv program from ISP levy…. wait… why wouldn’t my blog be up for funding? Why just TV mktg? #crtc #
  • Would it be fair to sum up WG position as ‘they have and we want’? Can’t think of a biz model, force someone to give you their profits. #crtc #
  • @heywriterboy assuming no traffic shaping, it’s nothing but a free market for ones and zeros. ISP isn’t stopping me from finding content. #
  • @mjthompson It takes a bit to get into twitter - and like any network, you’ll find its value increases by the number of nodes you add. #
  • My problem with SAC proposal is that it enforces a set biz model and takes away creative’s ability to find their own biz model #crtc #
  • @valerieinto if they were going to track every download and compensate the artists proportionately I’d have less prob with it. #
  • @valerieinto I just don’t see the @jonathancoulton’s of the world getting a fair shake in a SOCAN pymt system. #
  • “The more voices we have access to, the more robust our decision making will be” - great answer from CDM re:trust and citizen journo #crtc #
  • @citizenziggey they’re not looking to include UGC - but that raises all new ?s as to what’s prof. vs. ugc. #crtc #
  • @citizenziggy Yes. Gotta preserve ’shelf space’ on the internet. It’s a square peg to the ‘nets round hole. #crtc #
  • @Stephen_GM I agree, nets should be neutral. But if they’re neutral then argument that ISPs are broadcasters becomes bunk. #
  • @Stephen_GM I would see levy as an incentive for ISPs to maintain a neutral net. It becomes - you play fair or we smack you with tax. #
  • @Stephen_GM The difference tho is an important one. Trad. broadcast channels were limited. Digital are not. #
  • @Stephen_GM Scarcity necessitated regulation and protection. There is no real scarcity to online ’shelf space’, hence no need for reg’s. #
  • @Stephen_GM some day when we both have time, we’ll just have to sit down and hash it out over a beer. #crtc #beer (and that’s the Cnd way!) #
